It does not automatically cover every garment component, replace U.S. children’s product testing, create a CPC, or guarantee compliance in every market.
What Buyers Should Verify
Request the current document and check the certificate holder, number, covered article, product class, appendix or scope, and validity period. Confirm that the ordered composition, color or finish, and supplier article are included. A certificate for yarn or fabric should not be represented as a finished-garment certificate unless its scope says so.
Product Class And Baby Products
OEKO-TEX uses product classes based on intended use and skin contact. Buyers sourcing baby products should verify the class shown on the certificate and whether it matches the selected article. Do not rely only on a supplier logo, screenshot, or expired document.
What It Does Not Replace
For U.S. baby and children’s sleepwear, product classification, 16 CFR 1615 or 1616 where applicable, 16 CFR 1610 for qualifying infant or tight-fitting garments, lead and phthalate rules where applicable, tracking information, labeling, third-party testing, and certificate responsibilities require a product-specific review.
